Get to the heart of challenging behaviors with a comprehensive behavior assessment. NBBS will work with you to understand the reasons behind challenging behaviors and develop customized solutions to support positive change. Comprehensive reports outlining challenging behaviors, replacement behaviors, and recommendations for intervention. FBAs and other behavior assessments can be completed for students in school or children/adolescents in-home. Don’t let challenging behaviors hold your child back from thriving in their environment.

what is a behavior assessment?

Our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®) can conduct a variety of skills assessments (eg. VB-MAPP, ABLLS-R, PEAK) for children ages 2-18 years including a play skills parenting assessment (eg. Project Impact). NBBS also conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) which can be requested by both parents and school administrators/educators to address behavior concerns in-home or in school. Those who request an FBA can expect data collection to help determine what may be triggering challenging behaviors to occur and understand how to decrease occurrence. The FBA process includes records review, interviews, standardized assessment measures, direct observation, data analysis, and a report with individualized recommendations. All behavior assessment reports take 30 business days to complete.

Records Review

This typically entails a review of the most recent Individualized Education Program (IEP), student records, and diagnosis report (if applicable). This process is dependent upon on quickly records can be provided and how lengthy documents are.

Interview

Interviews may be conducted with teachers, aides, SPED directors, administrators, and/or caregivers. Interviews take about 1-1.5 hours to complete. Interviews may include completing a Functional Analysis Screening Tool.

Direct Observation

Our Master Trainers can operate as a third-party observers in order to collect accurate behavior data. Baseline, ABC, and observational data will be collected for 1-3 hours across 2 different settings.

Analysis & Report

Trained professionals will analyze the data collected and prepare an FBA report outlining the hypothesized function for challenging behavior and recommendations to decrease challenging behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors.

FAQ

Please take the time to review our frequently asked questions regarding behavior assessments.
Please contact us here if you do not see the answer to your question.

Ideally a school will notice if a student’s behavior requires a FBA/BIP process before a student with disabilities is disciplined. Sometimes that is not the case and parents can submit a written request to their school for an FBA to be completed. Please contact if you require a sample FBA request letter.

Yes, training can be provided to individuals seeking fieldwork experience to earn their BCBA certification. Please contact NBBS for more information.

Assessments are clients specific but the general timeline of events are as followed:

  1. Phone Interview – We will spend about 1 hour getting more information regarding the behavior(s) of the concern, background information, and other important details.
  2. Submit Requested Records – We may request additional information/records to review. This may include IEP, diagnosis/evaluations, and grades if applicable.
  3. Direct Observation – This is conducted in person and takes up to 2 hours. We will not be providing any testing at this time, we will collect observational and ABC data to help better understand why behaviors are occurring in the natural environment.
  4. Assessment Report Review – We will sit down together (in-person or virtually) and review the details of the report: behavior(s) baseline measurements, hypothesized functions or why the behavior(s) are occurring, and then recommended interventions/strategies
Depending on the severity of the behaviors – we may adjust or add to the timeline to best meet the needs of your child.

Assessments including the report can take between 14-30 calendar days to complete.
